30 Day Harry Potter Blog Challenge: Day 6

Day 6: Favorite Professor

This is such an easy one! My favorite professor is definitely McGonagall. She is so awesome! I love her because even though she is really strict on Harry and Ron, she's also a rule breaker herself. She has a soft spot for Harry because of his past, and she probably lets that cloud her judgement.

The main reason I love her is because of how she is portrayed in the movies. Maggie Smith is AMAZING. The way she plays McGonagall is just fabulous. She comes across as severe, but also fun- especially in the first movie when she wants Harry to be the new seeker and in the last movie when she uses the spell to awaken the suits of armor.

I also think her class would be really fun to take. She's an amazing witch- I mean, come on, she's one of the few animagi in the whole wizarding world, so that's saying something. Plus, her class is all about turning one thing into something else! How fun is that?

Harry Potter 30 Day Blog Challenge Day 5

Day 5: Saddest Moment

No contest. No way that anything breaks my little heart like Fred's death in book 7.

I was reading this book very very late at night in my bedroom. I was laying on my bed (probably upside down, I somehow always do that?) and obviously I was very into what was going on in the story. I had finished the 6th book a day or two prior to this, so I had already had my heart broken by Dumbledore's sacrificing death.

Now, I didn't believe that the good guys would come out of this fight unscathed. Going into those final chapters, I knew I was going to lose some of the characters I had come to love. I was mentally prepared for this.

I was NOT NOT NOT prepared in ANY way to have the twins separated. As I said on another day, the twins were some of my favorite characters. They made me laugh all the time, and were the perfect set and never even seemed like they wanted to be known as separate people. The were always a pair, always the set, and always in sync. The perfect mirror images of each other. And it completely breaks my heart that George has to live the rest of his fictional life without his best friend and other half.

What makes it worse is the fact that James and Oliver Phelps are phenomenal. The way they play off each other through all the movies is just adorable, and the way that Oliver (as George) reacted to Fred's death as if it was James' death just makes me cry!

Yes, I am fully aware that I get way too attached to fictional characters. No, I am not ashamed.

Harry Potter Blog Challenge Day 4

Day 4: Your Favorite Villain

This one is actually a difficult. So many of the villains were such powerful characters, and it's hard to say one that I like enough to label my "favorite."

I'm going back and forth between a couple different people: daddy Malfoy, little Malfoy, mommy Malfoy....but, I think I am going to land on Barty Crouch, Jr.

I thought his whole story line was impeccable, and I was incredibly disappointed in the fourth movie for leaving it completely out and glossing over basically everything. His storyline was so detailed....his mother taking his place in jail, using Harry's stolen wand to conquer the Dark Mark, acting like he was Moody for an entire school year...everything! I'm rereading the fourth book right now and am pretty excited to get to this part again.

Plus, he is played by David Tennant, who is the 10th doctor in Doctor Who. He's fabulous and I love him.

Harry Potter Blog Challenge Day 3

Day 3: Your Favorite Character

Well, this is a super easy one. Anyone who knows me well can tell you my favorite character: Ron! Duh.

Although he is very very very closely followed by the twins and Neville, Ron was my favorite from day 1. The book Ron is pretty much the best friend you could possibly have. He befriends you immediately, doesn't mind the fact that you were raised by Muggles and don't know anything about the wizarding world, he follows you into the most dangerous things he's ever encountered in every.single.book. He isn't book brilliant, and he isn't the best wizard in the world, but he's willing to give his all to his best friend. And even though he is constantly overshadowed by Hermione in classes and Harry in everything else, he still sticks by them. Plus he is hilarious and the only family Harry has consistently from book 1 to book 7.

And he's played by Rupert Grint, who is adorable. You can't beat that.

30 Day Harry Potter Blog Challenge: Day 2

Day 2: Least Favorite Book

My least favorite book in the Harry Potter series is probably book 5, Order of the Phoenix. It is such a depressing book, and I really dislike reading it (at least compared to the four books before it).

I think I dislike it because it is when the series turns dark. After Cedric dies at the end of Goblet of Fire, everything changes. Even though Harry seems to always be in danger, this is a different kind. Plus, this book is heart-wrenching because Sirius gets killed in the end. As you can see from my first post in this challenge, I love Harry's relationship with Sirius and his death is very disturbing. I hate how the guilt and burden of it is placed on Harry's shoulders, and how he and Lupin both have to witness his death after all they've been through over the years. I hate that Ron and Hermione keep everything from Harry until he shows up at Sirius's house.

I do like the twins, as always, because they are hilarious. Their fireworks show and exit from school on their brooms is the best part of the book, hands down. The one redeeming quality of the book lies within their constant jokes and antics.

So, basically, this is my least favorite book. I don't even like to watch the movie!

Stay tuned for Day 3!

So, here's Day 1: Your Favorite Book

This is a really easy one. My favorite HP book is definitely number 3, Prisoner of Azkaban.

I really love everything about this book. I know it may not be most people's favorites, especially because Voldemort isn't in it.  I love it, though. It makes me so happy when Harry finally has some semblance of a family. Seeing (in my mind) his reunion with Sirius is just a happy thing in the middle of such a depressing storyline. I also love the introduction of Lupin. He is such a great father figure for Harry, even before Sirius is found and saved from the Dementors. This book just had so many aspects to it, from Hagrid teaching to the time-turner twist that it was so much fun to read! It is always the one I go back to when I just need a book to read while relaxing. It always makes me happy :)

Stay tuned for the next 29 days!
